PEGs and Zwitterions


Researchers at University of Washington created a zwitterionic polymer that is able to trade-off between nonspecific interactions using BroadPharm’s PEGs. Covalent binding of hydrophilic polymers such as PEGs and zwitterionic polymers can prevent the immune system from recognizing its shielded protein. Zwitterions maintain an overall neutral charge, which gives them a high hydration capacity. Particles coated with zwitterionic polymers can be undetectable by the immune system, which can help improve the performance of drug delivery systems, medical devices and implants.
